In His Wakes Ministries will award a $500 Academic Scholarship on Sunday evening, May 25th at The 49th Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament banquet. An invitation to apply for this scholarship is being issued to all qualified water ski and wakeboard junior competitors. This is the second annual Junior Masters In His Wakes Scholarship.
Upon receipt of the scholarship application by May 9th, 2008, In His Wakes will evaluate the applications and determine a winner on the basis of not only on-water accomplishments and dedication to water skiing and wake boarding, but also upon academic excellence, athletic involvement, community involvement and spiritual growth.
The 2007 scholarship was awarded to Junior Masters competitor Brooks Wilson as best fulfilling the selection criteria. In His Wakes Scholarships will also be awarded later in the year to USA Water Ski Nationals Junior Competitors as well as to competitors of the INT Nationals.
In His Wakes, a Florida based not-for-profit corporation, founded by World Champion, World Record Holder and 8 times Masters Champion Kristi Overton Johnson in 2003 seeks to encourage individuals to live a life of purpose, balance and victory. Its mission is to introduce people to the life changing power of Jesus Christ through water sports.
In 2008, In His Wakes will conduct its “A Day to Remember Tour” consisting of 70 events nationally and an international event in Costa Rica. It is estimated over 2000 at-risk youth will be introduced to the sport of water skiing in 2008 alone through the “A D2R Tour.” Since its inception, over 4000 youth have been encouraged to take to the waters of life with excitement and passion through the “A Day to Remember” program. The goal of the Day to Remember Program is to give at-risk individuals a day on the water they will never forget through water skiing, swimming, boating, and tubing activities. For the participants, it is an experience of a lifetime as they overcome their fears, build trust relationships, and experience the thrill and victory of skimming across the water. Most importantly, the participants experience hope as they hear the life- changing message of Jesus Christ through personal testimonies from professional athletes, In His Wakes Staff, and volunteers. Since 2003, IHW has had over 1500 volunteers from the water sports community partner together to use the passion of water sports to impact the lives of others.
