The Masters Steering Committee has released the invitation criteria for the 49th Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament®, sponsored by Nautiques® by Correct Craft, to be held at Callaway Gardens® in Pine Mountain, Georgia, May 23-25, 2008.
The Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament is the world’s oldest and most prestigious water ski and wakeboard tournament. It is an invitation only event open only to the world’s most talented water sports athletes.
The Masters Committee meets annually to review the invitation criteria for the upcoming year’s event due to the dynamic environment of professional water sports. The committee has developed a comprehensive list of criteria to ensure that the world’s elite athletes are invited to compete in the 49th Masters.
Invitation criteria for the 49th Masters Water Ski Tournament includes:
- 2007 Defending Masters Event Champion.
- Official IWSF World Record Holder as of March 1, 2008 in Slalom, Jump and Trick.
- Current IWSF Water Ski Worlds Event Champions in Slalom, Jump and Trick.
- Top 10 Men and Top 8 Women on final IWSF Elite Ranking lists for Slalom; Top 8 for Jump and Tricks.
- A Winner of any Masters approved IWSF Elite List Tournament after June 1, 2007 until April 1, 2008. (2008 Masters Committee Approved Events with a minimum prize Purse in: Men Slalom and Jump US $15,000; Men’s Tricks: US $12,000; Women’s Slalom and Jump US $10,000 and Women’s Tricks: US $7,500.)
- Masters LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) May 17th & 18th 2008 at the Sunset Cup/Masters LCQ equal or better than the 5th place athlete invited.
- Men Slalom – 2.75@10.25m; Trick – 11040 pts.; Jump – 66.75m
- Women Slalom – 2@10.75m; Trick – 7830 pts.; Jump – 51.15m
In accordance with the above criteria, the following international field of elite skiers is invited:
Men Slalom: William Asher, Jamie Beauchesne, Marcus Brown, Glenn Campbell, Thomas Degasperi, Jodi Fisher, Jason Paredes, Chris Parrish, Nick Parsons, Drew Ross and Chris Rossi.
Men Jump: Thomas Asher, Ryan Dodd, Ryan Fitts, Freddy Krueger, Mark Lane, Jaret Llewellyn, Jason Seels and Jimmy Siemers.
Men Tricks: Oleg Deviatovski, Olivier Fortamps, Ryan Green, Javier Julio, Nicolas LeForestier, Jaret Llewellyn, Jimmy Siemers and Alexei Zharnasek.
Women Slalom: Nicole Arthur, April Coble-Eller, Sarah Green, Natalie Hamrick, Regina Jaquess, Kristi Overton Johnson, Jill Knutson, Emma Sheers, Michelle Simpson and Karen Truelove.
Women Trick: Angeliki Andriopoulou, Marion Aynaud, Rhoni Barton-Bischoff, Danyelle Bennett, Michale Briant, Maria Camila Linares, Clementine Lucine and Mandy Nightingale.
Women Jump: Angeliki Andriopoulou, Natalia Berdnikova, Nancy Chardin, June Fladborg, Jakalyn Hunter, Clementine Lucine, Marion Mathieu, Elena Milakova Thomsen and Maria Vympranietsova.
There will be NO injury/pregnancy clause exceptions given for the 2009 Masters Ski and Wakeboard Tournament to athletes who qualify but miss the 2008 Masters Ski and Wakeboard Tournament due to injury or pregnancy.
